The beauty of Khmer Temple Monivongsa Bopharam in Ca Mau Province
Under BlogMonivongsa Bopharam Temple is a Khmer temple, built in 1964 in the south pole of Vietnam: Ca Mau Province. It is very unique and amazing architecture complex that you cannot miss when traveling Ca Mau.
The total area of the temple is pretty large with plenty of tall sugar palms surrounded. The roof of the main hall contains a lot of layers piling up each others, making the hall super high as it can touch the sky. This is a particular feature of Khmer temple in the South.
A huge statue of Buddha is put in front of the main hall, impressing visitors by its great size. The way he lays is very special with the right hand put under his head and his face shows the serenity and peace.
Red and golden are two main colors of Monivongsa Bopharam Temple. They are the symbol of luck and blessing. The combination of these two hot colors with the architecture of the temple creates an impressive work of art, catching everyone’s eyes.
There is a tower built in the temple to keep bones and worship the dead. It is considered as the most sacred place in the temple.
A small statue of Buddha is put on the lotus pond.
The walls, the columns and the ceilings of the temple are embossed with unique and beautiful reliefs. Especially, there are reliefs about the story of Buddha life and ancient epic preaching Buddhists.
Monvongsa Bopharam temple is also a cultural and education centre for Khmer community in the neighborhood. The temple has school to teach Khmer language and Kinh language for local people and also a place to preserve folklore and cultural values of Khmer people.
A lot of Buddha statues and sculpture patterns are carved in the temple, showing the sophisticated hands of Khmer artisans.
This is the back gate of the temple. Every year, in the ceremony of the Buddha’s birthday on 30/8 and 1/9 (lunar calendar), Monivongsa Bopharam temple attract thousands of visitors to visit.
