Can Tho City, located in the center of Mekong Delta is economic and cultural center of south-west area of Vietnam. It has complex of rivers and canals such as Hau River, Can Tho River, Thot Not, O Mon canals. Can Tho is considered as “the green lung of Mekong Delta”, which create a simple and poetic beauty for the city. Here are top destinations you should visit in Can Tho.

1.    Long Tuyen ancient village

Long Tuyen is located in the south of Can Tho city, on the southeast part of Can Tho River. The village is not only famous for historic and cultural relics, but the attractive naturally scenery. Long Tuyen features typical lifestyle in Mekong River Delta with its channel landscapes and orchards.

The architecture and culture in Long Tuyen is very unique because it is the combination of various cultures from Western to Eastern, including Chinese, French, American, Cham and Japanese. The village also possesses six of 18 national relics in Can Tho, including famous locations such as Binh Thuy Temple, Nam Nha Pagoda or Binh Thuy Old House.

Bang Lang Stork Sanctuary is located about 60km from Can Tho city. It is actually a private garden owed by farmer Nguyen Ngoc Thuyen. In 1983, a flock of various kinds of storks suddenly gather in his garden and live here since then. Today, there are thousands of storks netting in the garden, including 11 different kinds of flork such as fly stork, egret, heron, pelican, woodpecker, etc. visiting Bang Lang Stork Sanctuary, you can have chance to see the view of birds returning home in late afternoon after a whole day of seeking foods in other places. Watching thousands of storks flying around and gather in the garden is very exotic scenery.

As you know, floating market is one-and-only feature in Mekong Delta area. And Cai Rang floating market is one among three biggest ones in Can Tho. It opens all day but busiest from the sunrise to 9:00AM. In the river area of about 1km length, there are hundred boats and canoes gathering together, selling and buying diversified products, from local agricultural products such as fruits, vegetables, meats, seafood to other services such as foods, coffee, drinks,… Visiting this special market, you can get to know the amazing cultural aspects of southerners.

Tay Do night market is located about 1km from Can Tho center of city, on the west side of Hau River. It is not only a trading market, but also an entertaining activity as well as tourist destination. Although it has operated in recent years, Tay Do night market is considered to be a characteristic of cultural tourism in Can Tho. It is trading center of southern provinces. It also has many other services such as foods, entertainment. Tay Do night market has architecture in harmony with the surrounding landscape and environment, imbued the southern Vietnam style. Stalls are divided by very scientific, clear, neat. Road of the market is asphalted and wide. Visiting here is the best way to study culture and tradition of Can Tho people.
