Visiting fairy-land U Minh Thuong

U Minh Thuong National Park covers an area of 21,107 ha, which core area accounts for 8038 ha, and buffer zone accountsfor 13,069 ha. This is the type of tropical forest ecosystems and wetlands which are very rare in the world.
The best way to explore U Minh Thuong is traveling by boat or canoe, going through a dyke and canals system, freshwater wetland. Especially, the water here is black because of a thick layer of peat. The most popular plant here is local melaleuca tree with average height of 20 meters, small leaves, sparse canopy and pleasing good smell. It plays an important role in maintaining the soil and water quality in the buffer zone by preventing acidification of topsoil and surface water. The combination of water, swamped melaleuca trees makes the scenery very charming and a little mysterious.

According to some survey, there are 187 species of bird, including 9 species of global conversation concern such as oriental darter, spot-billed pelican, black-headed ibis,ect.
Trang Doi is gathering place of thousands of bats and crows. In the daylight, you can see many bats hanging on the trees like huge fruits. There are a lot of different species of bat at U Minh Thuong, including a very rare one named Lyle Flying Fox.
