Vietnam Visa for Portuguese passport holders
Commonly, there are two options to apply for Vietnam Visa: apply directly at Vietnam Embassy/Consulate or apply for Vietnam visa approval letter by Department of Immigration via a travel agent.
Unfortunately, there are no Vietnam Embassy/Consulate in Portugal right now, despite several travel agencies and non-official sites falsely claiming otherwise. Portugal is not among the list of European countries who have a Vietnam Embassy/Consulate.
Then how do I apply for Vietnam Visa in Portugal?
There are still 2 options for Portuguese passport holders to apply for Vietnam Visa:
Option 1: Apply for visa at a neighboring country’s Vietnam Embassy/Consulate. The closest Vietnam Embassy to Portugal is in Madrid, Spain. You can apply directly in person, or mail your passport, 2 passport size photos, and other required documents to the Embassy. In addition, mailing fees are to be included if you wish to receive your Vietnam visa via post instead of picking up in person. Standard waiting time for this option is 3 to 4 working days.
Option 2: Apply for Visa on Arrival (for air travel) or Visa code (for land border crossing).
You will only need to fill out a short online application form, or download our offline form here and e-mail it to us if you would prefer. Once payment has been made, you will receive a letter of approval from us within two working days. After that you need to print the letter out and bring it with you when you travel to Vietnam. When you arrive at one of 3 Vietnam’s International Airports, you will have to pay for your visa stamp there and receive your Vietnam visa promptly.
